Meet the Founders
Suraj K. Gupta, Co-Founder, President & CEO
Suraj K. Gupta (Columbia MBA ’17) is the Co-Founder, President and CEO of Rogue Insight Capital, and is the CIO for the Easton’s Group of Hotels; Canada’s largest private hotel development corporation. The Easton’s Group owns a portfolio of over 20 hotels across Canada as well as residential condominium projects across the Greater Toronto Area.
One of Suraj’s primary mandates with Rogue includes supporting diversity in the innovation ecosystem by investing in female, immigrant, and visible minority founders. This is a cause that is very close to Suraj’s heart, as he is a second-generation Canadian, a visible minority, and he grew up in a household with four females. Suraj has witnessed the barriers that these groups of people face firsthand, and he understands the tremendous positive repercussions of helping these individuals succeed.
Suraj is very passionate about spreading the importance of this topic, and he believes that a huge amount of potential exists around the globe that we can unlock simply by providing all founders with equal opportunities. Suraj has travelled across Canada performing keynote speeches on this topic, notably including being the keynote speaker at the York University Alumni Speaker Series in October 2019, and being on the keynote panel at the Ontario Economic Summit in November 2019 where Suraj will be speaking alongside John Tory (Mayor of Toronto), Doug Ford (Premier of Ontario), and Andrea Horwath (Head of the Opposition in Ontario).
Suraj has also been quite heavily involved in the entrepreneurial ecosystem since Rogue’s inception. He is a Charter Member for TiE Canada, an Entrepreneur in Residence for YSpace (the York University Incubator), and has been a mentor for TechStars Colliers (the world’s first global real estate-tech accelerator). He has also judged various start-up competitions including at the Collision Conference, the TiEQuest Finals, and the Columbia Venture Competition.
Giving back to the community is very important to Suraj, and he volunteers a significant amount of his time to tackle global issues regarding education, youth empowerment, and inequality. He was invited by the United Nations to be a Special Delegate on their initiative to discuss the future of Youth Innovation and Resilience, and he is a speaker for the Youth Employment Services BizStart initiative, which helps at-risk youth in Toronto get off the streets by finding jobs, going back to school, or starting their own companies. He has also been invited to attend exclusive conferences around the world including the UN Nexus Summit (NYC 2019), the Forbes Women’s Summit (NYC 2019), the UN-MiSK Conference (NYC 2019), the Owner’s Forum Family Business Summit (Cape Town 2019), the Autumn Dialogues (Paris 2018), and the MiSK Global Forum (Riyadh 2016).
Suraj has also been recognized many times for his various achievements including winning the KML-Top-30-Under-30 Award, the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce’s Young Achievers award, being inducted into the MENSA High IQ Society, and being profiled in several newspapers including the Globe and Mail, India Abroad, and the Toronto Sun. He is also a basketball enthusiast, and captained the Columbia MBA team as well as various Toronto-based recreational teams in his spare time.
